An eclectic collection of paintings from James's studio, mainly landscapes from the UK and abroad. However there will also be work related to his various projects over the years.
Thrilled to have not only been included in this newly published and beautifully produced book, charting the history of painters of Mont Blanc, but also that one of my paintings was chosen for the front cover.
The publisher, Édition du Mont-Blanc, was set up by the world famous climber Catherine Destiville, includes many iconic painters, such as William Turner, Singer Sergeant and Gabriel Loppé, and goes back in history to the work of Léonardo da Vinci and Pieter Brueghel the Elder.
The book illustrates paintings relating to my project in 2022, to paint the sunset panorama from the summit of Mont Blanc in honour of the artist Gabriel Loppé who painted from the summit in 1873.
Also shown is 'Flow' 2020 oil on acrlic on paper 177x160cm which was bought by the Messner Mountain Museum a few years ago.
At the moment the book is only published in France.

The public exhibition showed over 70 works, including James’s paintings, made by artists who have accompanied HRH The King on his royal tours around the world.
James has accompanied HRH The King on four royal tours.
It was in 1998 on the royal tour of East Asia that James flew past Mount Everest. He returned the following year to paint the vast Himalayan scenes and hence began his interest in mountain paintings.

During November 2023 James and his friend and painting dealer, William Mitchell, travelled to Yosemite Park in California, USA. There they met Armin Fisher, a mountain guide who has accompanied James on several mountain painting trips. They spent a week in the Yosemite Valley, James painting and making studies as they explored the landscape.

'Partnership', a play by Elizabeth Baker, was performed at the Mint Theatre, New York, during November/December 2023. The play is set in the South Downs, UK, and tackles the issues of work-life balance. The stage design, by Alexander Woodward, featured one of James's South Downs paintings, framed to fill the entire stage such that the play is set within the painting.
